The Apostle Islands National Lake Shore was established in 1970 and includes 21 islands in Lake Superior along twelve miles of the Wisconsin coast. The Apostle Islands National Lake Shore is a nature preserve covering more than 69,000 acres. Sea caves and sandy beaches dot the coast and provide homes to a wide range of birds, mammals, fish and amphibians.

On the Front of the Coin

The ATB silver bullion coins look like giant quarters and even bear a face value of a “quarter dollar”, though the five ounces of silver contained in the coins makes them worth far more.

The United States Mint Quickly Sold Out of all of its Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins in the 2017 America The Beautiful Series.

The America The Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Quarter Coins continued to be a hit with investors and collectors in 2017. All five designs in the 2017 series sold out quickly as the U.S. Mint limited mintages on all coins this year. Two of the coins, the Frederick Douglass Historical Site and the Ozark Riverways, saw mintages of just 20,000, the lowest of any ATB coins since the U.S. Mint began production in 2010. The best selling coin in the ATB series in 2017, the Ellis Island coin had its mintage capped at 40,000. Only 35,000 of the first coin of the 2017 series, the Effigy Mound coin were issued. The fifth coin, the George Rogers coin was limited to just 32,400.

2017 ATB sales

The 2017 ATB total mintage of 147,400 coins was the third lowest in the series’ eight year history. Only the 2012 (113,800) and 2014 (136,000) mintages were lower.

Because of their limited mintages and popularity with collectors, ATB coins often trade at substantial premium in the after-market.

BGASC.com sold out quickly of the first three coins in the 2017 ATB series and unfortunately, can no longer offer those coins. We have limited quantities, however, remaining for sale of the fourth (Ellis Island) and fifth (George Rogers) coins in the ATB series.

The fifth coin in the 2018 America The Beautiful from the United States Mint, the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park is still available to order from BGASC.com.

About The America The Beautiful Coin Series

The America The Beautiful five ounce silver coins were authorized in 2008 under Public Law 110-456. The ATB coins are five ounces of .999 fine silver and are exact replicas of the designs of the America the Beautiful quarters ($.25) minted for general circulation. The ATB five ounce silver coins even have stamped on them “quarter dollar” on the obverse. ATB five ounce coins are the first five ounce silver coins ever produced by the U.S. Mint.

Each year since 2010, the U.S. Mint has produced five different designs of America the Beautiful coins. The reverse of the ATB coins features various depictions of U.S. National Parks or other national sites. The obverse of the ATB coins looks like a U.S. quarter featuring a portrait of George Washington. Indeed, the ATB series includes U.S. quarters intended for general circulation with face values of twenty five cents that are produced in the same design as their five ounce silver commemorative counterparts.

The ATB quarter program is a 12-year initiative that will honor 56 national parks and other national sites by 2020.

Because of their limited mintages, the ATB silver coins often sell out quickly and in later years sell for higher premiums over the value of their silver bullion content.
