The Shawnee National Park Coin Is The Second Highest Selling America The Beautiful Coin

Sales of the first coin in the 2016 America the Beautiful (ATB) series the Shawnee National Forest coin sold 105,000. This is up 200% from sales of the first coin of the 2015 ATB series, the Homestead National Monument of America coin, that sold 35,000.

Sales of Shawnee National Forest five ounce silver coins are the second highest ever of any ATB coin. The largest selling coins were the Gettysburg National Military Park and Glacier National Park coins that sold 126,700 each in 2011.

The third largest selling ATB was the Olympic National Park Coin also minted in 2011, of which 104,900 were sold.

The Shawnee National Forest coin is the only coin in the top five that was not minted in 2011. The fourth largest selling ATB coin was the Vicksburg National Military Park coin (58,100 sold) and the fifth largest selling ATB coin was the Chickasaw National Recreation Area coin (48,700) both minted in 2011.

Did you know? The America The Beautiful five ounce silver coins were authorized in 2008 under Public Law 110-456. The ATB coins are five ounces of .999 fine silver and are exact replicas of the designs of the America the Beautiful quarters ($.25) minted for general circulation. The ATB five ounce silver coins even have stamped on them “quarter dollar” on the obverse. ATB five ounce coins are the first five ounce silver coins minted by the U.S. Mint.
