American Gold Eagle & American Gold Buffalo Coin Sales Climb in July
U.S. Mint sold 59,000 ounces of gold in July, up 11% from July 2017.
Combined sales of all American Gold Eagles, including 1/10, 1/4, 1/2 and one ounce sizes and American Gold Buffalo coins totaled 59,000 ounces led by strong increases in sales of one ounce American Gold Eagles and one ounce American Gold Buffaloes.
Sales of American Gold Eagle Coins
The U.S. Mint sold 31,500 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins (AGE’s) in July 2018. This reflects a 46.5% increase in sales of ASE’s from June 2018 when 21,500 were sold.
Sales of American Silver Eagle coins in July 2018 were up 133.3% from 13,500 sold in July 2017.
Sales of one ounce American Gold Eagle coins through the first seven months of 2018 were 119,000 down 23.5% from the 155,500 sold in the first seven months of 2017.
American Gold Eagle sales, however, have picked up sharply the past three months and July sales were the strongest July totals since July 2015.

Sales of American Gold Buffalo Coins
The U.S. Mint sold 24,500 one ounce American Gold Buffalo coins (AGE’s) in July 2018, the largest single month total since January 2017. July sales of American Gold Buffaloes of 24,500 were up 277% from June 2018 when 6,500 were sold.
Sales of American Gold coins in July 2018 were up 308% from 6,000 sold in June 2018.
Sales of one ounce American Gold Buffalo coins through the first seven months of 2018 were 78,000 up 8.3% from the 72,000 sold in the first seven months of 2017.

About the American Gold Buffalo Coin
American Gold Buffalo coins are 24K gold while American Gold Eagle coins are 22K. One ounce American Gold Buffalo coins are slightly smaller and lighter than their one ounce American Gold Eagle counterparts that contain 3% silver and 5% copper mixed in the alloy, bringing the total weight of a one ounce American Gold Eagle coin to nearly 1.10 ounces.
The American Gold Buffalo is the U.S. Mint’s answer to 24K gold coins issued by the Canadian and Austrian Mints. American Gold Buffalo coins are only minted in one ounce sizes, unlike their American Gold Eagle counterparts which are minted in one ounce, one half ounce, one quarter ounce and one tenth ounce sizes. In 2008, however, the U.S. Mint produced American Gold Buffaloes in one, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/10 ounce sizes. The coins were sold individually and in complete sets.
In 2006, their first year of mintage, 323,000 American Gold Buffalo coins were sold.

Total Sales of Gold at the United States Mint
Through the first seven months of 2018, U.S. Mint overall gold sales as measured by total ounces to date are down 30% from 331,700 ounces to 233,500.
Gold sales at the U.S. Mint however from May- July 2018 of 131,000 ounces handily top May – July 2017 sales of 100,200 ounces.
